Inktober 2024: Process
This is kind of a continuation of the last post, Inktober 2024. Now I want to show you the process I used for most of the images!

As you can see, each drawing follows a very similar process. I wanted to keep it simple and straightforward so that I could relax while drawing, and wouldn’t get overwhelmed with all the details involved in the creation. I started by making the initial drawing in my sketchbook, allowing myself to experiment with different ways of depicting texture. I used a variety of ink tools, mostly pens and brush pens, which offer a nice variety of line work. I also sometimes incorporated grey markers for shading and adding some values that enhance the depth of the images. In some of the drawings, you can see that I added the character on top of the background. I simply drew the character separately from the background and merged them later in Photoshop.
After finishing the drawings, I scanned them into photoshop. I scanned them in at 600 dpi so that I could have a clean, crisp image to work with. I separated the lines from the background so that I could color them however I liked. Then I just worked on coloring. I wanted to keep the coloring process kind of simple, so that it wouldn’t distract too much from the lines.
Once everything was finished, I would add a paper texture to bring back some of the analog look that had been lost with the digital coloring.
